Our popular City Spaces series is back with the first of three new free virtual concerts recorded at local landmarks. City Spaces: Spark Science Centre features five Calgary Phil musicians performing solos and duets recorded at Calgary’s bright, high-tech, energy-efficient science centre.

This concert includes a mix of classical and contemporary works by composers Johann Sebastian Bach, Claude Debussy, Claude Lapalme, Sergei Prokofiev, and Georg Philipp Telemann, plus the Canadian debut of a new work by Brett Dean. The featured musicians are Gwen Klassen, Assistant Principal Flute; Jonathan Yeoh, Bass; Trish Bereti Reid, Bass, with David Reid, Principal Bass Trombone; and Jesse Morrison, Viola. The second half of the event starts with a short interview hosted by Associate Conductor Karl Hirzer, followed by an encore live-stream presentation of the first movement from Verdi’s Requiem, performed by the Calgary Philharmonic in 2018.
